Anthony Grafton on History of Ideas

We love Professor Anthony Grafton‘s work. Hence, it is appropriate that, after Lovejoy, we point to an interesting paper by Professor Grafton. In this paper, Professor Grafton takes stock of the field called history of ideas, its state fifty years or so after Lovejoy proclaimed it open.  For those of you who want to know more about Professor Grafton’s interests, here’s the transcript of a colloquy. The Founder

Here’s an interesting write up about Arthur O. Lovejoy, who wrote the manifesto for the practice of history of ideas. He also founded the Journal of History of Ideas. Much has changed in the practice of history of ideas, in terms of concerns, methods, sources, and what not. Nevertheless, Lovejoy’s work remains synonymous with history of ideas.
